Astronomy on Tap returns to NUBO! This month, we will tackle a dense topic: black holes, the densest known objects in the Universe! Did you know there is a hidden monster living in the centre of every massive galaxy, including our own, the Milky Way. With masses larger than a billion times that of the Sun, super-massive black holes are extreme objects and may drive the evolution of their host galaxies. On the other hand, one way that stars can end their lives is to form much smaller black holes. But which stars produce black holes and how do we know measure how big those black holes are?
UCSC researchers Ignacio Martin-Navarro and Josiah Schwab will bravely approach this subject and there will be drink specials all night long as well as games, quizzes, and prizes!
Our events are geared toward the general public, so please bring your curiosity, questions, and love for space. Astronomy on Tap is free of charge and open to anyone 21+.
Mingling starts at 6:00pm on the 2nd floor of New Bohemia. For more information about UCSC Astronomy events, please see our website or check out our Facebook page
Lily's Food Truck will be serving up Tacos, Quesadillas and Burritos from their mobile food truck, so get here early and grab some food, a beer, and a good spot to enjoy the discussion.
