Pleasure Point will be the focal point for local entertainment as people take to the street to enjoy the fith annual Pleasure Point Street Fair on Saturday, June 24 2017. The event will be held on Portola Drive between 41st and 38th Avenues, Santa Cruz, from 11 am – 5 pm with bike parking available, and admission is free.
A total of eight local bands will perform a variety of styles of music on two stages including Americana, Blues, Rock, Reggae and Surf Music. The kid’s zone will feature crafts and activities from local businesses. In addition, close to 100 vendors will sell arts, crafts, local services, food and beverages. An expanded beer garden will offer NuBo’s lagers.
The nonprofit beneficiary of this year’s fair is the Jay Moriarity Foundation, which was created in the spirit of legendary waterman Jay Moriarity to support local programs that improve the quality of life for our community and environment, and educate and assist our youth. $2,500 of the event proceeds will be donated to the foundation. In addition to raising awareness and funds for the foundation, we’re very excited that the fair will culminate “Jay Week.” Starting June 16, there will be an activity each day that supports the foundation. The Pleasure Point Business Association is partnering with the Jay Moriarity Foundation,” said Kim Moriarity Wildey. “Pleasure Point is where Jay spent most of his life growing up, surfing, and bonding with and caring for the ocean, and it held a special place in Jay’s heart as well as mine. To celebrate Jay Week at the street fair where our community gathers to enjoy life and connect with others, while raising money to help our youth, is an absolute honor! We’re so happy that Jay’s spirit that inspired so many continues to bring people together. And the genuine stoke and positive energy in the air at this street fair always amazes me. Live Like Jay!” exclaimed Moriarity Wildey. The Jay Week schedule will be posted here on the website once the lineup is confirmed.
